The true pulse of life is movement, transformation, adaptation. "Conversations on Craft Vol. 1” is the beginning of a conversation about past, present, and future —a heartfelt dialogue between craft and fashion, a challenge to our industry, and a reflection of our ever-changing cultural landscape.

Craftsmanship and cultural heritage

Sharing the process behind her collections previously presented in London, Paris, Madrid and Barcelona, Carlota Barrera seeks to convey the beauty of craftsmanship in dialogue with fashion, the appreciation for the time spent learning and producing everyday crafts, and the importance of craftsmanship to industry, society and cultural heritage. All of Carlota Barrera's collections have something in common: deconstructed garments that can only exist with meticulous production. Her designs experiment with the concept of the classic, the traditional.

"I am fascinated by the process of reinterpreting the classic with a very contemporary language."

Considering artisans as part of the artistic community, it is well known that these forms of creation are dangerously disappearing day by day, in an age where visual content, immediacy and pressure are more demanding than ever.

The brand currently works with four workshops in Madrid, with whom it shares common values and thoughts. "Craftsmanship, the craft and working with hands have lost value," says Carlota Barrera's team. For this reason, the brand continues a dialogue that seeks to contribute to the evolution of crafts and trades by revisiting the past from the present to create the future, always as a shared and collaborative process and journey.

"A handmade object is the result of years of learning and accumulated mastery of the people who process the material, cut, braid, place and join the pieces together. All our garments are handmade by people, and all these people deserve great respect and recognition for their talent, expertise and dedication. Our garments would be nothing without them".
